PUPPET IN PARIS

Bates's Blog - Presented by 12ozProphet.com 26 Jan 2012, 12:40 pm CET

The Grids by Puppet was Discovered by Agnès b in the street of Brooklyn, she find it very unique and touched her from the bottom of her soul. So she was looking up the artist and now she put some Grids on her latest clothes for her springcollection and also she put up a small pre-show in her gallery in Paris with some gridpaintings on canvases. Go and see the show!!

Mr Puppet is un oldschool graffiti artist that is still going strong since he started in the early 80s. GRIDS is Puppets latest project that he has been working on for some years now on the side of classic graffiti. Its an abstract grid freestyle pattern that are very often twisted into figurative characters with a very suggestive touch, mostly with a romantic surrealistic story behind. He used to paints Grids alone mostly in abandoned buildings.

Mister Puppet has a show called Grids in Paris at: Agnés b Between 20 january until 3 march 2012. More here: http://www.galeriedujour.com/ http://www.puppetindustries.com/

NANSENSGADE HALL OF FAME

Bates's Blog - Presented by 12ozProphet.com 23 Jan 2012, 12:53 pm CET

Early stages of Danish graffiti history, started here in Nansensgade Hall of fame back in 1984-85, being a basketball court, and a playground for hip hoppers hanging out, I personally got permission to make it official, for everyone to paint from the 90’s up until it got closet a decade ago, today its looks like this.. and is used by mostly skaters.

Its not a commercial venture, just a fun project with my Crewmate Ader 7$ and the beatmaker GR! from SparringPartners for the release of my new website http://www.silverblack.ch

I would appreciate your help to spread the word about this, so that everybody can enjoy this game!

ARTIST LEE QUINONES

Bates's Blog - Presented by 12ozProphet.com 23 Jan 2012, 9:01 am CET

Brooklyn Insiders: Lee Quinones from Chuck Gibson on Vimeo.

Brooklyn Insiders is a video project that allows us to get to know influential people and the realities around them. We take a look at their environment and let them tell us how and why Brooklyn is the reason they stay relevant.

Lee Quinones is considered the single most influential artist to emerge from the New York City subway art movement. He is a celebrated figure in both the contemporary art world and in popular culture circles, faithfully producing work that is ripe with provocative socio-political content and intricate composition.

TARZAN’S POOL

Bates's Blog - Presented by 12ozProphet.com 20 Jan 2012, 12:57 pm CET

In 1929, Johnny Weissmuller, an Austrian-Hungarian-born American swimmer and actor best known for playing Tarzan in movies, inaugurated the Piscine Molitor (also known as the Piscines Auteuil-Molitor or the Grands établissements balnéaires d’Auteuil) swimming pool in Paris (what is why I call it Tarzan’s swimming pool). As well as the beautiful La Jarry, this wonderful Art Deco building, which hosted the popular introduction of the bikini by Louis Réard in 1946, is planned to be destroyed in 2012!

The 4-star Tarzan Swimming Pool Instead of that great, abandoned Art Deco design atmosphere, the new investors leased the property for 54 years (for round about €64.8 million) and are going to build a 4-star hotel, a health center, and a medical center, as well as retail, restaurants, and parking facilities, what’s in my eyes is completely incomprehensible.

For that reason half French, half Hungarian, Los Angeles based artist Mambo created a giant swimming pool collage, as a giant tribute to the olympic champ as well as a bridge between this golden era and today. The documenting video (see above) also gives some great insights into the building itself and makes me wonder why on earth someone would destroy such a nice place which was intensely used by urban artists, urban explorers..

Why you ask? cause i was a huge fan of the B&W Tarzan movies as a child!
